We Are So Opinionated

Most people are only a specialist in one maybe two subjects, but it seems like everyone wants to have an opinion about everything. The challenge with this is when someone who specializes in a subject is in the room, people do not listen to what that person is saying, because they love what they have to say more than listening. We reveal our foolishness by our shallow understanding of things which comes out in our opinion. We are not able to know everything about everything, we actually know very little about anything, so what we make our specialty subject, politics, education, healthcare, business, leadership, marriage, family or even the Bible is what we know the most about. When someone has a passion for something and has spent time researching, studying and pursuing understanding about a subject, then we come with our opinion about it, we reveal our foolishness.

Church, we need to learn to love listening more than we love talking and sharing our opinion about everything of which we know next to nothing about. Once scroll through social media of your choice whether text or video will make you realize how opinionated and yet uninformed most people are. We know next to nothing about Trump or Obama; Oprah or Elon; yet we speak as though we have coffee with them weekly. Most people do a “daily devotion” but want to claim to be ones who understand the depths and mysteries of God. Still others want to raise a banner at a school board meeting spouting their opinion on a subject, but know nothing of the inner workings of the education system and how it has been infiltrated for indoctrination. The greatest gift we can give ourselves is the gift of listening for there are people around you who are studying a subject and they know things about it we don’t but could learn if only we would listen to learn not to hurry up and share our opinion.

The Lord has taught me to stay in my lane and learn with a listening ear about other lanes, for each lane is a full time job to learn and we really don’t know as much as we think we do, so it is high time to stop spouting opinions about things we know little to nothing about and start listening with both ears to those who are studying the subject being spoken about. Opinions, generalities and shallow knowledge is ignored more than we realize, people have ears for the authentic not the opinionated. Shhhhh its okay to not have to talk.
