Have you ever read something and thought you knew what it meant, but then you circle back to it and all of the sudden you have an aha moment that you cannot deny? Yeah, that happened to me this morning. I was reading Proverbs 31 and my eyes were opened to a truth I had never seen before. Listen to this “An excellent wife, who can find? For her worth is far above jewels.” I have always read this verse with the emphasis on an excellent wife who can find, as though there are not many women of excellence. I guess that comes from the belief of not ever feeling like you measure up. But this morning I heard something I had never heard before.
Proverbs 31:10 says, “An excellent wife, who can find? For her worth is far above jewels.” Most people can’t find an excellent wife, because they do not recognize her worth. That which is highly valuable is kept in places out of public view. We do not display our rubies, diamonds, emeralds, gold bars, silver coins, or certain documents on the kitchen counter. No we have a special hidden place for these highly valuable things. The measure of the worth determines the location in which it is placed. Selah.
Women of worth are hidden not from you, but for you because they are carry so much value. When you find a woman of worth, it is because you were looking for something of value. When you find someone of value you treat it as valuable, precious, and even may keep much of it private. The heart of a woman is very valuable, so she hides it not from you but for you. When you find it, you have found a treasure of the likes you will never forget. This happens in marriage, friendships and even ministry settings, if you are willing to look for her. God keeps his most valuable treasures hidden for the seekers.
To my female friends, your worth is not diminished because it is not recognized. Your hiddeness is not punishment it is a statement of value. There is not a lack of worth in you there is a lack of seeking in most of us. We need a revival of the seekers, for there is so much to find, but we must be ones who are seeking. To my male friends, God made you seekers, hunters, pursuers, it is in your DNA to do this. When you stop seeking you stop finding, no matter what it is you are pursuing and you get bored. There are so many treasures God has hidden for you, starting with the Lord Himself, your wife, and even prosperity, but you must activate or reactivate the seeker, the pursuer, the hunter in you if you are going to find what is valuable. God hides it for us not from us, but we must go looking for it.
