Here we are dipped in hierarchy but called to humility; steeped in sickness yet promised healing; locked up in addiction and yet declared set free. When reality does not match the promise, it can be challenging. The questions of what have I done to deserve this arise with a vengeance in our minds. The enemy mocks us saying, God doesn’t heal today; addictions are permanent; captivity is the final destination. Liar, the devil is a liar.
Friends, humility is the answer to our frustrations. Humility is not self-abasement; it is the ability to acknowledge I know a lot less than I care to admit. Pride is thinking we know so much, when we really know so little. Religion wants us to name it and claim it; prophesy it; declare it; and make it look and sound like we are operating in power and authority.

2 Chronicles 7:14 says, “If MY people, who are called by MY name will humble themselves, seek my face and pray…” This is our calling, if we are His people, called by His name. Our first call is to humble ourselves. Humility is the ability to remain teachable in everything. There is always someone in the room that knows something you don’t, but you must be humble to realize this.
We are so dipped in heirarchy, we struggle with humility. Heirarchy is the need to put yourself above someone else, so you are the expert on a subject, but the challenge with heirarchy is in the kingdom love is the highest value and people who think they know so much actually lack love. Humility is manifested in our love, that people can see, hear, feel coming from us. We can know all the right answers, say all the right things, but if we have not love, we are not operating in humility.
We need to deconstruct heirarchy and the need to be right and put on love, for love is living for someone else, listening to others, serving people, love is not about me, it is about you. Jesus loved His Father so He obeyed Him all the way to and through the cross until He was seated right next to Him. What we need is love not to be right. Humility is loving and heirarchy is hindering us more than we realize, humble yourself, it will make you a lover of God and a lover of people.
