Songs of Deliverance

Thanksgiving week is here in the United States. Families will gather around tables on Thursday with a feast spread out of the likes we do not have any other time of the year. Relatives and friends will bare the travel nightmares and challenges just to be in the same location as people who they love or want to be with for the holiday season. This next 6 weeks will have highs and lows, joys and challenges of the likes that culminate after a long year of much of the same.

History may repeat itself in some families, new memories may be made in others. Traditions will be celebrated and new traditions will be implemented. New members both young and old may join or be missing from the table. I am not sure what your Thanksgiving is going to look like this year, but what I do know is that giving thanks is a daily part of God’s kingdom. We call it a day, Thanksgiving, but the kingdom calls it a culture of thanksgiving.

Some people will find giving thanks easy as they got a new job, a promotion, an engagement, had a baby or started a new relationship. Others will struggle to find something to give thanks for this year as the pain of loss is great, the divorce still hurts, the finances are tight or that child is not at the table for whatever reason. So many feels during these holidays.

One thing the Lord spoke to me this weekend was the words “Songs of Deliverance!” This phrase comes out of Psalm 32 and I believe it is a word for this holiday season.

We all have songs that got us through seasons. When I first got saved it was I Have Decided by Amy Grant, when I was struggling with something serious, the Lord gave me the song by Michael W. Smith, Surrounded as my song of deliverance. The holidays are hard for us in many ways but there is a song of deliverance for this season God wants you to sing. I pray you find your song and sing my friend. For songs say what our hearts cannot find the words for. Happy Thanksgiving Week.
