Road Trip

Do you know where you are going? When I lived in Seattle, WA, I was attending a Bible School and a group of us were from MN so we planned a road trip to MN. We can literally take one highway from Seattle to MN, I-90. It takes 24 hours to make the trip and when you are in college you switch drivers so you can do it in a weekend plus one day. Oh the things we did when we were young. We did the same thing when our RA took our whole floor to Disneyland for the weekend. Seattle to Anaheim, again one main highway, I-5 straight south and about 18 hours, but we made it in a day, went to Disneyland the next day and were back in time for classes on Monday morning. College life was so much fun.

Reading Psalm 84 this morning reminded me of these great memories, for when you have a highway inside of you, and you know where you are going, you do not deviate from the destination you are headed to. The psalmist says, “How blessed is the man whose strength is in You, In whose heart are the highways to Zion! Passing through the valley of Baca they make it a spring; The early rain also covers it with blessings. They go from strength to strength, Every one of them appears before God in Zion” (Ps. 84:5-7). The highway in you gives you strength and it changes things along the way. It doesn’t say you won’t weep on the journey, it says the weeping is turned into springs, because you passed through the valley of weeping.

We have a highway inside of us that leads us into the presence of God. No matter what challenges we face, it does not detour us from our destination. I-90 goes from Seattle to MN; I-5 goes from Seattle to Disneyland; but the blood of Jesus goes from the cross to the kingdom and once you get on that highway inside of you, even places of weeping turning into springs because there is a highway inside of you and you only get stronger the longer you are on it. Put the top down, throw your hands up, grab some friends and enjoy the road trip of a lifetime. The journey is the destination and the destination is the journey. Get on the highway of God and don’t get off!
