The Deception Of The Dollar

I was at Costco with a friend recently and the total of our order was $127.00. Immediately we both knew this was the Lord saying, Psalm 127. We got in the car and read that Psalm and knew it pertained to the business she is starting. We prayed and thanked the Lord for such a clear word. Now today, I am praying Psalm 127 on this 27th day of February and the Lord has me look up the meaning of vanity for the psalmist says, “Unless the LORD builds the house, They labor in vain who build it; Unless the LORD guards the city, The watchman keeps awake in vain. It is vain for you to rise up early, To retire late, To eat the bread of painful labors; For He gives to His beloved even in his sleep.” Vanity means desolating, empty, worthless, idolatry, falsehood, deceptive. The Holy Spirit says to me, “The deception of the dollar” and He begins to reveal to me how the dollar deceives people.

The dollar decieves us because it promises us things it cannot deliver. The dollar says, “Pursue me and I will provide for you.” The dollar promises to make us feel powerful. The dollar tells us the more of them we have the more secure we are. The dollar convinces us we cannot live with out it. And on and on the deceptive message of the dollar speaks. The challenge is, we do exactly what the psalmist says, all for the deception of the dollar. We stay up late, we rise up early, we engage in painful labors both physically, emotionally and spiritually all for the dollar. We have been deceived into believing the dollar is our savior. We may not say that, but we live as though it is. We trust the dollar, we pursue the dollar, we depend on the dollar and it is vanity, it is deceptive, it is worthless.

When I saw this, ever so clearly this morning, I began to break off the spirit of vanity on people I know that have been deceived by the dollar. We are not people of vanity, we are people of the presence of God. But the deception of the dollar has attached itself to so many believers, it is running them ragged in pursuit of it. I took my sword of the spirit and sliced off the spirit of vanity on my friends, my family, myself. It is a spirit, it is not who we are, we have been deceived, but the truth is here to set us free from the spirit of vanity. The psalmist ends by saying, “For He gives to His beloved even in his sleep.” My friends, rest, relax, read your Bible, pray, God is restoring the years the locust called the deception of the dollar, have eaten away. You will lack nothing for the truth is setting you free to access abundance!
