Christianity is not like any other religion, the reason being, our God is alive. We have a God that speaks, that listens, that gets involved in our lives. Our prayers are not to stone and wood, to trees and temples, no our God is living and active. This is the demarcation of Christianity. Jesus Christ is alive, He is seated at the right hand of God and is living to make intercession for us right now. What a mighty God we serve.
Having a living God, means we have as speaking God and when we hear His voice, we honor Him by obeying what He says. Abraham is called the Father of our faith, because He heard the voice of God and obeyed. He was then declared righteous for His obedience to the voice of God not because of anything He did and this was all before Jesus.
What I love about Abraham, is that whatever He heard God say He did. God said leave your family and follow me to a place I will show you, so he left Haran and headed out. When God said, to the mountain and make a sacrifice, he grabbed his son Isaac and off he went.
Today, while reading Genesis 22 it struck me, that even without all the resources needed to do what God said, he went. Isaac noted they were missing something and said, “We have the fire and the wood, the boy said, but where is the sheep for the burnt offering? God will provide a sheep for the burnt offering, my son, Abraham answered. And they both walked on together.” Abraham’s faith was heard in his answer.
Friends we are being called to obey even if all the resources are not identifiable upon departure. We are children of Abraham and we must go, we must do, what God says. If asked what about this or what about that, our first response needs to be, God will provide what is missing. Oh the faith of our Father Abraham, may we be people of action, not just words.
