When our familiarity is with the flesh, the arm of flesh, the words of flesh, we not only rely on flesh, but we seek out flesh for the validation of what flesh is saying or doing. This is the reason “birds of a feather flock together.” We must gather to ourselves those who are saying what we are thinking, hearing or even saying, for we are more familiar with flesh than spirit.
Spirit is breath, it is invisible, it is untouchable, but it is absolute substance. Spirit carries absolute authority, creative ability and power to change outcomes spoken by and agreed upon by those who are in agreement in the flesh. Spirit trumps flesh, if only we will speak words of authority that silence the words of flesh.
Flesh is divisive, unforgiving, offended, culturally Christian and needs others who are fleshly to agree with them, so they feel like they have authority. Flesh loves to deny truth; loves to think they are right so won’t talk to others who know things they don’t know. Flesh cannot handle truth for it operates in insecurity and hides behind hypocrisy.
We are spirit beings, we are called to be spirit led, which means we do what we hear the spirit say, even when our flesh resists the idea God is presenting to us. For God is spirit! This is why Zechariah 4:6 says, “Not by might, nor by power, but by my Spirit, says the LORD of hosts.”
This is elementary Christianity, foundational truth that will set us free if we became more familiar with the spirit than we are comfortable with the flesh. Church people who have been saved for years, but don’t walk by the spirit are needing a revival, not just those who we label as unbelievers. The church must become spirit led, because there is an authentic generation knocking on the door wanting the God who is spirit, not people who are flesh.
