Have you ever been so full that even the sight of food is not tempting nor desirable? I have heard it said, the best time to go grocery shopping is after you have eaten, then you don’t buy what you don’t need.
I was reading 1 Thessalonians 1 this morning and a concern rose in my spirit that we are so saturated, satiated and stuffed with words, we are no longer convicted. We listen to podcasts, go to church services to hear sermons, watch YouTube videos and listen to interviews on Rumble, but nothing is convicting us.
When I first got saved in 1989, when I heard the word of God, I was convicted. My life was so out of alignment and so far from truth, when I heard truth, I was convicted. The longer I have been saved, the more in alignment my heart is with the word of God, but I still get convicted when I read something for it reveals the alignment needs to be adjusted.
Paul says, “For our gospel came to you not merely in the form of words but in mighty power infused with the Holy Spirit and deep conviction.” There is a gospel that brings conviction, comes with power, and is infused with the Holy Spirit. It is the gospel of the kingdom that Jesus preached. It is the gospel of Christ in you the hope of glory that Paul preached.
Is it possible we have been hearing another gospel, one that is not convicting us? Have we treated the Word of God casually because it is preached lightly? When is the last time you were convicted by the Word of God? The softer our hearts are, the more easily we will be convincted, because we want to be in alignment with the truth that sets us free.
I pray for messengers of the kingdom to speak out who are infused with the Holy Spirit, operate in mighty power and preach the gospel which brings conviction not just to unbelievers, but to church goers, pew sitters, podcast creators, social media influencers. Www.apostolicresourcecenter.org
