Temporal or Eternal? What Do You Want

When we meet people, read about people or hear about people who have a relationship with God, a knowledge of God or an understanding of God that we don’t it is not to shame us, it is to encourage us there is more we do not know about God. Their love, passion, pursuit of God is an invitation from God to learn more about Him.

I was reading Psalm 19 this morning and the psalmist wrote about six different aspects of God’s word when he said…the law of the Lord; the testimony of the Lord; the precepts of the Lord; the commandments of the Lord; the fear of the Lord; the judgments of the Lord. To Christians nowadays the words, law, commandments, fear and judgements would cause us to put up walls, walk away in fear and not want to draw near to a God like this. But listen to what the psalmist said immediately after these six statements. “They are more desirable than gold, yes, than much fine gold;

Sweeter also than honey and the drippings of the honeycomb. Moreover, by them Your servant is warned; In keeping them there is great reward.” The psalmist knows something about the word of God and the nature of God most believers are unaware of. We have so much to learn.

I went to a church in The Woodlands, TX yesterday and for Father’s Day they had a car show outside with a variety of different cars. One car I wanted to see up close was the Rolls Royce, it was legit luxury. I met the owner, not of the one I was sitting in, but also of the other two he owned and were on site as well. He said to me, he came from poverty and now look at me. It wasn’t arrogance, it was reality. I smiled and said, yes sir, you have come a long way. He was proud of those vehicles. I was honored to sit in that car, which costs the same as houses in TN, a lot of money. Then I read Psalm 19 this morning and I realize, we highly value the temporal, but the psalmist highly valued the eternal word of God. I enjoyed the Rolls Royce, but it is going to wear out, break down and its only temporal, but as I read the word of God this morning, I am thankful for the eternal Word that is legit truth that sets us free!

The Elul and Eclipse Convergence

The solar eclipse is the talk of the town here in the USA and around the world. What does it mean? Is it just a historical event that one must see or is it a prophetic sign proclaiming judgment on the USA for all their sins? Many voices have sought to share what they believe this is all about. To science it is a cosmic phenomenon, to the Jews it is a sign, to businesses it is prosperity, to most, we are not sure, but we bought our glasses anyway. One thing we all can agree on is that this eclipse is something heavenly, that means the author of the heavens knows what it is all about. The thing about God is that He is omniscient, which means He is all knowing. He knew this eclipse was going to happen, for he planned it and I believe He enjoys the fact that we are spending time and money, cancelling school and filling our gas tanks in preparation to look into the sky and see a God show. It is proof that God can draw a crowd larger than any man or woman, God can get us to spend our money on seeing Him and God alone can put on a show that is going to be historic.

Since it is all about God, based on Psalm 19, which says, “The heavens are telling of the glory of God; And their expanse is declaring the work of His hands,” it would behoove us to take note of His calendar to see what is so significant about the timing of this eclipse. On Monday August 21, 2017 at 7:18pm in Israel, the sun will set, which will begin a brand-new day, the first day of the month named Elul. This time will be 9:18am in Portland, OR which means the solar eclipse will be happening over the USA on the first day of Elul on God’s calendar. What is significant about this is the truth about the month of Elul.

Elul, is the month where the Jews celebrate: THE KING IS IN THE FIELD. The scripture verse connected to this month is Song of Songs 6:2-3 “My beloved has gone down to his garden, To the beds of balsam, To pasture his flock in the gardens And gather lilies.  “I am my beloved’s and my beloved is mine, He who pastures his flock among the lilies.” This is significant because it means that God has left His palace, to come and walk among His people. Listen to what one rabbi says on Chabad.org “In the field, “he receives them all pleasantly and shows a smiling countenance to all.” In the “field,” G‑d allows His subjects to relate to Him as His presence is manifest.” This is not a coincidence, that this Hebrew month, which is God’s calendar, on the first day, we are having a solar eclipse, where God is going to manifest His presence.

For Elul 1 and the Solar Eclipse to happen on the same day across the USA is a sign that makes us wonder, are we on the verge of an awakening like we have not seen in our lifetime? Is it possible, the Lord is going to reveal His kindness that leads us to repentance (Romans 2:4)? With the king in the field, making Himself so accessible to people in this hour, is it possible, He is not mad at us, but rather He wants to make Himself seen in a parabolic fashion as a sign in the heavens like a crown upon the sun? No matter what you may think this is all about, one thing I know for sure, God is at the center of it all. You can’t make this stuff up, Elul has had the same meaning for year after year. So, while some are anticipating disaster, others are seeing at as science, I am going to be looking up into the sky with my solar eclipse glasses on knowing the king is in the field and I am going to say thank you Lord for being God alone!
