Look here, no look here, buy this, no buy that, go here, no come here, it is a daily deluge of being pulled in so many directions with so many demands. People turn to yoga so they can get their breath back in the stress of all the storms called life, hoping breathing, stretching, meditating will bring the peace they so desire. Others turn to “spirits” (wine, beer, bourbon, tequila) hoping to relax, hoping to settle down for the stess is too much. Anger is evident on the face of people who are charged politically thinking politics is going to alleviate their stress, so they raise signs, hang banners, twist stories about people, in hopes of getting their candidate in office. The world which is controlled by the devil, his minions and peoples choice to sin really is the perfect storm and it is no wonder people are stressed out.
The Bible tells us we are to be in the world but not of the world. That means we need to be light in the darkness, hope in the midst of much despair and the voice of calm in the midst of raging storms of people’s many opinions. But so many, like Lot, whose righteous soul was tormented by all that was surrounding him in Sodom, are struggling to find fresh air in a polluted world. One of the main tactics of the enemy is to wear down the saints of the Most High. If he can wear you out, he can take you out. That is why Jesus says, come to Me all you who are weary and heavy laden and I will give your souls rest. Breathing techniques, stretching, or other spirits may relax your body, but they cannot give rest to your soul. Only time with Jesus in the secret place can do that. His word is your rest.
Genesis 1:1-2 says, “In the beginning God created the heavens and the earth. The earth was formless and void, and darkness was over the surface of the deep, and the Spirit of God was moving over the surface of the waters.” Fix your eyes not on the formless and void earth, but on the Spirit of God that is moving. He is moving powerfully right now today. Take some time today, everyday and open your Bible, read the word, let it wash you of the filth of the world in which you live and breath life into your weary soul. He is your strong tower, your shelter in the storm, He is your Father in heaven and He is for you, come to HIm and find rest for your soul.
