Day 11 – Feasting On John 11
Did you know one of the blessings of trials, situations, or circumstances that make us uncomfortable and feel out of control is that it reveals our theology? Theology is the study of God or I like to say how we view God or what we believe about God and His word. Division in the church is all about theology, so it should not be surprising people are divided when trials, situations and circumstances happen nationally. It’s revealing our theology.
In John 11, a situation arises in which Lazarus, the brother of Mary and Martha dies. Sounds final, no changing this outcome, right? Put yourself in their shoes, the man is in a tomb for four days when Jesus arrives and we hear Martha’s theology in her discussion with Jesus. Listen…”Now Martha, as soon as she heard that Jesus was coming, went and met Him, but Mary was sitting in the house. Now Martha said to Jesus, “Lord, if You had been here, my brother would not have died. But even now I know that whatever You ask of God, God will give You.” Jesus said to her, “Your brother will rise again.” Martha said to Him, “I know that he will rise again in the resurrection at the last day.” Jesus said to her, “I am the resurrection and the life. He who believes in Me, though he may die, he shall live. And whoever lives and believes in Me shall never die. Do you believe this?” (John 11:20-26).
Martha believed in a future resurrection of life for her brother, but Jesus was about to update her operating system to a now resurrection of life. Shifting from some distant reality to a now reality is a huge transition for a generation that has been dipped in a theology of only in heaven, not now on earth. We are no different and God is using situations that looked closed, finished, final to update our operating system to the God Who not only was, Who not only will be, but Who is!
When Jesus got the news of Lazarus being sick He declared, “This sickness is not unto death, but for the glory of God, that the Son of God may be glorified through it.” (John 11:4). We as the nations are about to see the glory of God arise in Now time and His glory is updating our operating system so we can be activated for the kingdom of God is at hand and the harvest is plentiful. Get ready for the Now time God to resurrect what we thought was dead. He’s still Rolling Stones!
