Hear – Obey – See

Have you ever read a passage of scripture and thought I know what that means because it has been preached on so many times you cannot hear what it is saying? I was reading Revelation 3:20 today, “Behold, I stand at the door and knock; if anyone hears My voice and opens the door, I will come in to him and will dine with him, and he with Me.” This verse has been preached in an evangelism way so many times, I have to push past all the sermons I have heard to hear what the Lord is saying in this verse. Do you have that challenge when you read the Bible? John 3:16 is another one, it is like we just read over it like we know what it means because it has been quoted so many times. With a bible filled with thousands of verses, I wonder why preachers stick to only certain ones to preach on? Not the point, but it was a thought.

Reading the Bible we must remember it was a scroll, it was not chapters and verses, so when I was reading Revelation 3:20 today, the Lord said, this verse is tied to Revelation 4:1-2 “After these things I looked, and behold, a door standing open in heaven, and the first voice which I had heard, like the sound of a trumpet speaking with me, said, Come up here, and I will show you what must take place after these things. Immediately I was in the Spirit; and behold, a throne was standing in heaven, and One sitting on the throne.” Revelation 3:20 speaks of a door at which the voice of God is knocking and those who hear His voice, open the door, then Revelation 4:1-2 tells us what they see once the door is opened because they heard and responded. They hear the voice and they see the throne and One sitting on it.

We are a people that are to hear the voice of God, obey what we hear and when we do we will see Him who sits on the throne. Once you see Him your life changes forever. It is no longer about fame, fortune, possessions, or needing people’s attention or affirmation. Once you see Him, nothing else has the ability to satisfy you like He does. Many people are living behind a closed door, they have heard Him but they have not seen Him, because they do nothing with what they hear. Obedience opens the door for you to see the One who is speaking, these verses spoken to a church not to an unbeliever. Hear, obey and see, it will change your life forever.
