We Are The Crown

We have been told we are to lay our crowns down at the feet of Jesus. This idea comes from a scene described in Revelation 4 where it says, “Around the throne were twenty four thrones, and seated on the thrones were twenty four elders, clothed in white garment, with golden crowns on their heads.” The scene continues with a view of majesty that culminates with “The twenty four elders falling down before Him who is seated on the throne and worshipping Him who lives forever and ever. They cast their crowns before the throne saying, Worthy are you, our Lord and God, to receive glory and honor and power, for you created all things, and by your will they existed and were created.” I don’t know about you, but I have been taught those crowns are something on my head that I take off and lay at his feet.

I am not here to tell you what to think or believe, but this morning while reading Proverbs 12, which I read every month on the twelfth day of each month and have done this for years. Today, this chapter unlocked for me a revelation I will never forget. Verse four says, “An excellent wife is the crown of her husband, but she who brings shame is like rottenness in his bones.” While I have always thought I was taking off some crown in worship to lay it at the feet of Jesus, the Lord showed me this morning that we are the crown, it is not some object on our head, it is us, I am the crown, you are the crown on His head.

Crown in both Revelation which is Greek and Proverbs which is Hebrew means a symbol of power and authority. This means, we, the wife of God, the bride of Christ are the crown, we are His authority and power. When we operate in a spirit of excellence, which means financial, military and numerical influence, we are the crown on His head. So, when Revelation 4 says we cast our crowns down at His feet for He is worthy to receive, we are actually laying ourselves down at His feet for He is the only King and we are His crown. What an honor to be the crown of God, an excellent wife!
