Awe and Wonder

The Word of God has predominantly for us in western culture been about theology but the word of God is more about marveling at who God is, rather than arguing over doctrines of men. I sense the desire of God to restore the awe and wonder of His word to us.

Would you be willing to join me in listening to the word of God through the eyes of awe and wonder today? If so, listen to this from Psalm 19. “The heavens declare the glory of God, the firmament shows His handiwork.”

The firmament is spoken of in Genesis 1 and it speaks of the sun, moon, and stars. Which makes sense when we read the next verses. “Day unto day (sun) utters speech, and night unto night (moon and stars) reveals knowledge. There is no speech nor language where their voice is not heard.”

This means the sun, moon and stars, which everyone in all creation sees on a daily basis, some better than others depending on cloud cover and light pollution, are hearing the glory of God.

We are living in a world in which the glory of God is speaking to us day and night, night and day. Whether in a village that has no known language, or in the biggest city in the world. Same sun, same moon, same stars all speaking the same language, the knowledge of the glory of God.

But what are the firmament speaking? This is where we must slow down, listen, stand in awe and wonder. One thing I think they are speaking is God is faithful. Every morning in my 56 years of life, the sun has been there every morning. It speaks of cycles, the moon every month for as long as we have been alive goes through a 28-29 day cycle. And it communicates power that is beautiful. The stars shimmer like diamonds on the velvet blue canvas above our heads every night.

Friends, theology matters, but awe and wonder awakens in us beauty that cannot be manufactured with such vivid detail and colors. God’s glory is heard by every human being everyday. We are not always listening, but He is always speaking. Www.apostolicresourcecenter.org
