The Bible is my favorite book to read because it is living. I can read the same verses, same chapters, same books over and over again, but because it is a living word, I never hear or see the same thing every time. God does not change He is the same yesterday today and forever (Hebrews 13:8), but because His words are living, they speak everytime you read them if you have ears to hear. Having ears to hear means you are coming to the word to listen not assume you know what it is saying or what it means. To really hear the word of God that is living, speaking and new every morning, you must be forever teachable, for we serve a God who knows everything.
Today I was praying Psalm 2 and the first few verses are applicable to right now in the world, so it was not hard to see them, but what I hadn’t heard before is that the plotting, planning, anger, of the nations is because they are trying to escape the rule of God, Creator of heaven and earth. You can’t escape the one who made you, you can’t control the One who owns it all. No wonder the nations and rulers are angry. Listen to how Psalm 2 says it, “Why are the nations so angry? Why do they waste their time with futile plans? The kings of the earth prepare for battle; the rulers plot together against the LORD and against his anointed one. ‘Let us break their chains,’ they cry, and free ourselves from slavery to God.”
A law was passed on Monday “establishing” same sex marriage, Dutch Sheets in His Give Him 15 yesterday talks about it. If you did not create marriage, who do you think you can redefine marriage? It is just one way “people” try to play God and decide what is best for them, for us. But this is nothing new to God, it has been tried before and will be tried again and it will fail just as all other raging against God fails. The funny thing about humanity is we think we are so smart and in doing so we reveal how foolish we really are. No wonder Psalm 2 continues by saying, “But the one who rules in heaven laughs. The Lord scoffs at them.” Maybe one day we will stop resisting the very God who made us for His pleasure and in His likeness because He loves us!
