One of the challenges we as the body of Christ face is our lack of love for the truth. In a post-modern world, where truth is relative, believers have adapted a belief that truth is relative, therefore, no one can speak truth into our lives. Culture has created a belief that has crept into the church and if someone speaks the truth corporately we can handle it because if we don’t agree with it we just dismiss it in our hearts. But if someone even gets the courage to speak the truth to us individually we get so offended we shut them off and shut them out as though they have no idea what they are talking about.
The challenge with this culture of post-modernism is we are becoming more and more bound, because only the truth will set us free (John 8:32). If we don’t want to hear the truth and adjust according to the truth, we will never be free. Freedom is a gift money cannot buy, it will not be wrapped under the tree with your name on it, it can only be accessed by having a heart that says, no matter who speaks it, I want to know the truth that will set me free. Freedom is the cry of everyone’s heart, because we were created to be free. I would even say most if not all of our challenges are due to a lack of freedom in some area of our life. And if there is a lack of freedom, there is a lack of truth being spoken.
I wonder if there are people who have truth we need to hear but they don’t share it with us because we have created a culture around us that makes it clear we don’t want to hear the truth. This is a dangerous place to be. Truth can be spoken by your child if you will listen, by your spouse if you can handle it, by your friends if you make space for them, and by a variety of other places and people if you are a lover of truth. The only way we as people are going to be free is to hear the truth, adjust to the truth and then truth will set us free individually, family, community and nationally. Jesus said, I Am the way, the truth and the life, there is no other way to Father but through Me (John 14:6). What we need is truth!
