Historic Moment

We are living in a holiday season, today is Good Friday, Sunday is Easter or Resurrection Day. Churches all over the nation have signs up saying come to our church for Easter service, we have stuff for the kids to do, bring the whole family. The stores are filled with baskets, candy and lots of spring colors and flowers to buy in order to make this season special. I love holiday seasons, but seasons are easy to recognize for they are marketed so well, especially in America. What is challenging for most people to recognize is not a “season” but a divine moment in history.

Jesus said, “In the morning, there will be a storm today, for the sky is red and threatening. You know how to discern the appearance of the sky, but you are unable to discern the signs of the times?” (Matthew 16:3) On Good Friday in AD33, just like today, there was a lack of discernment about the signs of the times. Jesus Christ, the son of God, incarnate, in flesh, was standing before them, but they could not see Him, they did not realize their hour of His visitation. They were living history at that moment and most of them missed it. May I propose to you, we are living in similar significant times right now and most people can’t see it, don’t realize it and yet it is manifesting right in front of us all.

Hebrews 11:3 says, “By means of faith we perceive that the material universe and the God appointed ages of time were equipped and fitted by God’s word for the purpose for which they were intended.” We are living not in a season that is marketed well, but in a God appointed time that was planned long before we were born. Can you perceive by faith the day and the hour in which we live? Can you see the signs all around us of this historic hour in which we are alive? We are living in a transition of the likes that will be talked about in history books. We are alive for such a time as this. We were created for this very hour, this very day. I pray you have eyes to see and ears to hear the day of visitation in which we live for it is like nothing we have ever seen before.

Jesus is not on a cross, He is not in a tomb, He is seated at the right hand of God and He is ruling the nations from a throne of which righteousness and justice are its foundation (Psalm 97). We are in a marketed season right now, enjoy it, but the bigger narrative is we are in a historic moment and this is no time to sleep, for the day is upon us and we were born for such a time as this.
