Jesus was not a man who sugar coated what He wanted to say. He was love, He was grace, but He also was truth and when He spoke the truth it was not to shame, condemn or embarrass people it was to set them free. Jesus came to change the narrative they were believing, but he encountered a lot of resistance. Resistance is not always rebellion, sometimes it is entrenched narratives that refuse to budge, no matter how true what is being spoken is heard.

Jesus said in Luke 12:54-56 “Then He also said to the multitudes, “Whenever you see a cloud rising out of the west, immediately you say, ‘A shower is coming’; and so it is. And when you see the south wind blow, you say, ‘There will be hot weather’; and there is. Hypocrites! You can discern the face of the sky and of the earth, but how is it you do not discern this time?”

I sense this is a word for us today. Can you discern the times we are living in? Discernment does not come from personal opinion, it comes from laying down our thoughts, our ideas, our timelines and listening to the voice of God, watching the activity of God and pursuing the face of God. When we become a listener, we become discerning.

Can you see the activity of God on earth as it is in heaven playing out right before your eyes? Do you see we are days away from the rededication of a nation, decreed by the highest office in our land? Do you realize what this means? Can you discern the times we are living in? Do you recognize what is really happening with the changing of the guard this week at the Federal Reserve or the meeting happening in China as we speak?

We may not know what the whole loaf looks like, but we are being given enough bread crumbs to eat so we can enjoy the meal that is bring prepared for us as the nations. This is not a normal time in history. This is significant beyond what we can see, what we can hear, what we even know. But if you can’t discern the atmosphere of the earth and what God is doing, can you at least see all the good news that is happening with the rededication of a nation back to God this Sunday morning?
