Reports have said that anxiety is at an all time high and Bible reading among believers is at an all time low. Do you think there is any correlation? I do. Here is why, because anxiety is the inability to see the future or control it, so people get anxious. Anxiety is evidence of trust in self, not in God, which brings me to why I believe it is connected to the lack of Bible reading. Paul said, Faith comes by hearing and hearing the word of God. When you are not reading, listening to or talking about the word of God you are not building your faith in God. Faith is a weapon, an answer to anxiety.
Proverbs 20:24 says, “It is the Lord who directs your life, for each step you take is ordained by God to bring you closer to your destiny. So much of your life then remains a mystery.”
Mystery is the inability to control or know what is going to happen next, this is why we are called to walk by faith and not by sight. The challenge is you can’t walk this way with someone, not even God, unless you invest time in the relationship so you can know for certain that God is trustworthy. Henceforth, the need to read our Bible.
The word of God is medicine, it cures anxiety; reveals perfect love that casts out all fear; makes you inside strong so when the winds of change blow and we feel out of control, Jesus comes walking toward us on the water saying, it is me, fear not, for no weapon formed against you will prosper and no tongue that rises against you in judgment will prevail. My friends, life is a mystery, but God has a history of being faithful, trustworthy and fun to hang out with. Read your Bible, invest in God, it will yield returns money can’t buy.
