The Plant

I took my truck to the car wash the other day and as I went to vacuum underneath the seat, I found an empty beer can. I do not drink, so I was puzzled by the find. My son and his best friend used the truck last, and so the thought crossed my mind is this from them, I mean they are teenagers. As I pondered where this beer can came from, I thought about the character of my son and his best friend and I knew they would not have drank a can of beer. Then 24 hours later, the Holy Spirit said, remember they took the truck to drop off the recycling, it fell out of the recycling can. I smiled and said, of course it did.

I learned a lot from this experience. One the enemy will plant certain “signs” in order to get us to question the innocent; two taking time to remember the character of the ones the enemy is seeking to accuse in your heart is critical; third, the Holy Spirit knows the truth about everything, so be patient He will bring to rememberance all we need to know.

The enemy plants thoughts, “signs”, in our lives to get us to question God and each other. But when we remember the track record of those the enemy is seeding doubts about, we can counter the enemies narrative. Psalm 74:12-17 reveals God’s track record and the psalmist had to remember it during a challenging time. “Yet God is my king from of old, Who works deeds of deliverance in the midst of the earth. You divided the sea by Your strength; You broke the heads of the sea monsters in the waters. You crushed the heads of Leviathan; You broke open springs and torrents; You have established all the boundaries of the earth;” God has a great track record, so we can trust Him no matter what the enemy tries to plant in our lives to tell us something different. And that beer can was from a recycling trip not a “sign” of something else.
